I first went to Garuda in 1996.. it used to be a lil house in heaven then.. The cottage like entrance.. the very friendly owner and his lovely and courteous wife... It seemed like more of a home-stay than a hotel... and that sweet nostalgia stayed with me over a decade and more..

I think the Tourist Lodge must have been completely renovated since the last reviewer visited. I've stayed there 2-3 times and had nothing like the experience mentioned. I'm actually in Haridwar and unfortunatelly have booked and payed a room in Milap Mansion because was raining a lot and was complicate to move.... Cannot recommend to stay here, bathrooms are absolutelly dirty as almost everything in the hotel. They don't even have towels.... Avoid the place.

We had a fantastic stay here in August 2008. Its location is great - right by the lake, with lake views from some of the rooms and the restaurant. You can't beat the Sheela for location - its about as close to the Taj as you can get, just a hundred metres or so from the East Gate. Its also got a nice small garden which was good to eat out in - by candlelight in the evening. Its also amazingly quiet as its within the 'no car' zone around the Taj.

Jasvilas was probably our favourite hotel during our recent stay in India (August 2008).

I've stayed there on a number of occasions 2007 and early 2008. Its bare bones with your own shower and shared squat toilets that are at one end of the hall.
