A romantic hotel in a 350-year old heritage building. The rooms are truly beautiful with detailed carvings/molding and scalloped arches throughout. All rooms are lake facing and are right up to the water. Some rooms have balconies and others have window seats. The furniture is beautiful, wooden and reminiscent of the times of Maharajas and Maharanis. When you first arrive you might be confused by the hotel's lack of a reception desk. Do not fear - just head into the garden restaurant of Ambrai and ask any waiter and they will bring the manager out to meet you. This is a tiny 7 room haveli with truly the most beautiful views in all of Udaipur. Because of it's peninsulart location is has direct views of Lake Palace Hotel, City Palace and the entire lake. The hotel is not located right in the old city per se but it is a mere 5 minute auto or 15 minute walk to the jumbled shop lined streets of the old city. At the top of the dead end road that the hotel is on is a small shop called Falcon where you can buy books, water, and expendables. Here they can also arrange for the hire of either an auto-rickshaw or taxi for the day to take you to see all the sights. They are much cheaper than hiring through the hotel though I am sure the hotel can arrange all this as well. The gentleman who owns this shop is very kind and helpful and can help you to arrange just about anything tourist related in Udaipur. Price Caution: I was quoted a rice of 2150 Rs. per night (plus 10% tax) over email for the double suite. Upon arrival the manager had tried to say the price was 2550 Rs. I quickly showed him his email and he had no problem with the original price. So make sure you bring the quoted price in writing if possible. You can also book this hotel through many online reservation companies but you will have to pay upfront with a credit card. There is a small transaction fee often associated with these companies so it is your choice how to pay. I recommend just emailing the hotel directly. If it's the off season I hear you may be able to bargain a better price as long as you're writing/calling from inside India. Hot shower (with geyser), TV, maid service, laundry, taxi/travel service, restaurant, privte bath, window seats or balcony, doctor on call

We stayed here for 2 nites Feb '06. Beautiful room right on the water. The adjoining Ambrai restaurant is terrific - you dine outside under the trees on a dirt floor patio with a water level view of the city palace and a dhobi ghat - and the food is great too! Plus, the evening sarangi/tabla performances were a real treat. ... read more »

We got a suite at the Amet Haveli because we wanted to splurge (we were spending approx Rs. 1000 a night in other cities so in comparison we were splurging) at the most romantic city in Rajasthan and it was worth it. We had a gorgeous view of the City Palace and Lake Palace and the restaurant Ambrai was to die for. We landed ... read more »

:D :D :D :D :D I was VERY happy wit this hotel. It made coming back at the end of the day truly a joy. The biggest problem was that the room was so amazing it makes it hard to leave to go sight-seeing! Get the suite if you can afford it. It's worth the extra 300 Rs. a night. ... read more »
