Hotel Sheela Agra
200 meters east of Taj Mahal East Gate
website: http://www.hotelsheelaagra.com/
Hi. We stayed there in December '04. I asked about email and they don't have it. However, the owner is opening up a second hotel down the road. The website will be http://www.sheelainn.com/. Likes: The garden is a God-send. In fact, we found it to be the nicest garden in all of our travels in India. Tables and chairs all over, candles at night, bougenvelia bushes and other flowers. A bit of peace of quiet after dodging touts. The staff is the greatest and work very hard to ensure a pleasant stay. The food is tasty and safe. There is a beautiful German Shephard called Tiger who loves attention but will not seek it if you don't like dogs. Location can't be beat either. It's about 200 meters from the Taj Mahal East Gate. Dislikes: We had a room with hot shower but the shower head was heavily calcified and water was a trickle. In fact, we didn't have hot water for 3 out of 4 days so we got a discount on the room. If you decide to stay here, just get the room without shower. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful garden, great location, fantastic food. Hotel Sheela Agra Rates and Room Information
300Rs for room without shower, 400Rs with shower

Only reason why you go to visit Agra is Taj, perhaps even Red Fort. The location of this hotel is almost perfect. You can also wake up early to take sunrise pictures of Taj. Garden and restaurant is also very nice. But bathroom in the room is terrible and dirty! No hot watter!!! Manager said to bring bucket where he can pour ... read more »
Great Choice For Agra

This place cannot be beat for location - 200 m from the Taj East Entrance and within another 300 m of several roof-top restaurants. Staying here makes seeing the Taj and being in Agra very easy. This place is nothing fancy, and I wondered when the place was last swept or when the sheets were last changed, but anyone who has ... read more »

You can't beat the Sheela for location - its about as close to the Taj as you can get, just a hundred metres or so from the East Gate. Its also got a nice small garden which was good to eat out in - by candlelight in the evening. Its also amazingly quiet as its within the 'no car' zone around the Taj.

i had no problem booking this room, staff were always helpful and friendly, as were the two dogs, the outdoor spaces and gardens were an oasis, a complete break from the traffic and touts everywhere else, a good chance to recharge, only drawback noise seems to travel (i think bathrooms back onto each other) and being all on ... read more »

I stayed here for one night in Feb. 08 having picked the hotel based on location only. The room was simple and clean with great hot water. We got there at about 2am. The gate was locked and we had a very hard time waking up the people at the reception. It was freezing and the blankets were less than adequate. We got up to ... read more »

Really liked staying here - the garden was such a nice retreat. The service on the food is a bit slow though.
Rooms were clean and comfy, though there were heaps of mozzies in the bathroom (but there were heaps of mozzies in Agra).
Its right near the East gate of the Taj. We had room 115. ... read more »

For the price what else can you ask for. We stayed there Dec 06 and booked my email. Owners had our booking when we arrived. The room was clean and presentable. Hot water on tap. We arranged a late check out and paid for a half day which is ideal for the late train departures. Food was good too.

I had made a reservation at Hotel Sheela atleast a month and half before getting there for a Rs. 600 night room. Agra was our last destination so by then we knew what a room should entail for the price you were paying based on the city. Sheela Inn was a huge disappointment. The room we were taken to had a water leak in one wall, ... read more »

This was the worst hotel we stayed at in India, although to be fair it was by far the cheapest (500 rupees per night). The pro's are its position close to the Taj Mahal, its garden and the nice restaurant and its staff. The cons are the rooms - like prison cells, very dirty, freezing cold (it was mid December) and indifferent ... read more »

Personally I would never do business with these people again. They're almost impossible to pin down to get a reservation in the first place, and when we did finally get through the manager was very vague about where we would be staying, mentioning their "sister" hotel nearby. I made it clear that we didn't want ... read more »
