Highly recommend the Jyoti Mahal

We stayed at the Jyoti Mahal for 4 nights in June of 2008 during our first few (stressful) days in Delhi. It was a joy to come back to this hotel after long days of dealing with the typical tourist hassles in Delhi. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated with marble floors, large comfortable beds, clean bedding, and nice furniture. The A/C is great, and the bathroom was large with plenty of hot water and good water pressure.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the hotel offers free internet. The restaurant serves very good food, and you can dine on the rooftop or get room service 24 hours. We arranged a hotel pickup from the airport and the driver was there like a beacon in a sea of touts, which was a huge relief (especially after we met a number of travellers whose pre-arranged airport pickups never materialized).
The only downside to this hotel is that it is located on a small side street off the Main Bazaar in Pahar Ganj. This was our first trip to Delhi and we found Pahar Ganj to be a little overwhelming and confusing, and we had trouble finding our way back the first few times we walked back - plus several of our rickshaw and taxi drivers also had trouble finding the place. However, we soon realized it was easier to just tell drivers to take us to the Imperial cinema and from there it's just around the corner. The Jyoti Mahal isn't cheap by Pahar Ganj standards but we thought it was a good value and would definitely stay there again.
