Hotel Sheela Agra
Overall:
Location:
Staff:
Cleanliness:
Positives: Close to Taj Mahal
Negatives: Suspect cleanliness
You can't beat the Sheela for location - its about as close to the Taj as you can get, just a hundred metres or so from the East Gate. Its also got a nice small garden which was good to eat out in - by candlelight in the evening. Its also amazingly quiet as its within the 'no car' zone around the Taj.
This was the cheapest hotel we stayed in on our trip, so I may not be comparing like with like, but the rooms are very jaded. The bathroom was not the cleanest, and I had to ask the bedding to be changed on arrival, as it was obviously stained from a previous occupant. However, they did this without complaint. The main issue is that none of the rooms we saw had Air con, but air cooling, which is a massive machine outside the window which blows in cool air. Efficient, yes, noisy - extremely! And ours sparked and blew up on the last morning.
We ate there two evenings - food very reasonably priced, obviously popular with the traveller crowd, and quite tasty.
