Newly Renovated?
Overall:

Cleanliness:
Positives: Location, clean, comfy beds, no hassles
Negatives: Problematic hot water, noise from the hallway
I think the Tourist Lodge must have been completely renovated since the last reviewer visited. I've stayed there 2-3 times and had nothing like the experience mentioned. Rooms are fairly spacious, spotless and with new 'modern' furnishings (wardrobe, desk, mini-sofa, coffee table, double-bed etc.) Bathrooms are fully tiled with new fixtures. The front rooms look out over Arakashan Road and are fully air-conditioned (1200-1800, I think). The rear rooms are air-cooled and cheaper (around 800-1000). The staff will clean the floors and bathroom for you every day, if requested. The common areas (lobby, hallways, etc) are kept very clean.
Generally I'd recommend it is a comfortable place to stay especially for someone who's willing to pay 1000-1500 for the luxury of a new, clean room with modern comforts in Delhi. During 3 different stays the only two real complaints I have had are about hot water and noise from the corridor. The hot water issue is only really a problem in winter. Although they promise 24/7 hot water we tried several rooms and none of them produced anything beyond lukewarm water. They either have a real problem with the boiler (or , more likely, they just don't want to go to the expense of using it.) In summers, they are straightforward in saying they just don't provide hot water showers but you can get bucket hot water anytime. If you like a hot steamy shower in the morning this isn't the place for you but in summers the water from the shower is refreshingly room temperature or cooler so it's not an issue.
The other problem is noise levels. In that area you expect noise from outside but the bigger issue is sometimes noise from the corridors. The young lads who are stationed on each floor have a habit of sitting in the empty rooms watching the television at full blast. Unfortunately on the upper floors the doors have open vents to the corridor so it feels like the telly is in the room with you. The first floor rooms down't seem to have this problem. On the upper floors you just need to tell them to keep it down and they'll usually sheepishly shut it off and then sneak it back on when they think you've gone to sleep.
Other than these two issues, it's a competitive place with friendly (if a little cheap and desultory) management and no hassles. It certainly no longer rates the review previously posted.
