We found this to be the best value hotel during our recent 6 week trip to India. If you need more assurances, check out the reviews on Trip Advisor.
When this place hits the LP Guide, the prices will probably double. While the hotel isn't in the Old Quarter, it is in a great shopping area full of restaurants, cybercafes and the best supermarket in town is a few steps away. In less than 5 minutes, you can walk into the Old Quarter. The owner, Mr Corbelli, was on site while we were there. Check out the big framed photo of him with Pavarotti and Sophia Loren behind the front desk.
I would suggest asking for a room that doesn't face Mission Street, as it can get quite noisy. Our room in the back was super quiet. The hotel has a generator. Pondy had a lot of power outages when we were there, so the generator was quite welcome. I can't say enough good about this place!
