The Windamere is a lovely historic property at the end of the mall in Darjeeling. Try to get a room in the main building for the ambience. El primo room is #9 - the Chogyal of Sikkim Room
the Prince Peter of Greece room is OK. Do not accept the Princess of Siam room - it is very small, dark and in the back of the building on the main level. There are other buildings with rooms scattered on the property and lovely as they are, not as atmospheric. Evenings can be cold so someone will come light your fireplace while you are at dinner. Be sure to have afternoon tea in the gardens on a nice day and to visit the Toy Train library and Museum on the property. Dinner is a set meal, with a hand-typed menu -- wear your prettiest clothes and pretend its the turn of the century.
