Absolutely Lovely

Positives: relaxed, great food, large room, nice gardens and veranda, helpful staff
Negatives: not too many restaurants nearby

Arriving at the end of our trip with Namaste India Tours we didn't know which hotel in Jodhpur we'd end up in. I was so glad when we arrived at the Ratan Vilas as I'd read favourable reviews of the place.
We were shown our room, the one next to the inside restaurant, and we very delighted: a double bed plus two singles for the kids and a sofa and chairs, it was certainly a step up from our previous hotels, what with the antique furniture.
We were late for lunch but went anyway and were pleased with the food.
The staff are very polite and attentive and seem like they've been trained at a classier hotel. The waiters seemed more 'silver service' than at 5* hotels in Delhi.
The entrance to the hotel grounds leads you to a small garden in front of the hotel upon which are tables/chairs for you to relax in during the afternoon, sipping tea and the like. Personally I preferred to sit on the veranda with a lime soda and stroke the owner's pet dog.
The hotel layout lends itself to a quite relaxed place and being able to chat with the owners is nice too.
The food was great and on the one time we didn't eat there we wished we had. There's a variety of foods on the menu that suited us and our kids and it was the only restaurant that I found Lal Maas, a Rajasthani dish I wanted to try. In the evening meals are served in the candelit courtyard outside , although you can eat inside should you wish.
