Positives: Friendly owner, clean, quircky and homely
Negatives: A short walk out of town

We stayed here in January 2006. We had made our reservation by letter some months previously, so I was nervous whether our rooms would be available, but we were warmly welcomed by the owner brandishing our letter. We had been given the top floor room, which was actually more of a suite, with a large sitting room, seperate small bedroom, and a bathroom. The rooom was at the top of the house with large glass windows and great views from the sitting room, and our bedroom had a large comfy bed with plenty of spare blankets and a small TV. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with western style loo, and although the washing facilities were just a tap and bucket this was adequete for us and there was always warm - hot water. The rooms were decorated in quirky style with wood panelling and 'wild west' patterned tiles, which while a little bit unnusual, added to the charm. The room we had was signifcantly larger then the others in the hotel, but a glance into the other rooms as we came up the stairs showed them all to be clean and nicely decorated as far as we could see. The hotel is on the outskirsts of Munnar, but there is a small row of shopes and tea stands opposite where you can buy a drink, and we mainly took our meals at the resrtuarant of the Royal Retreat, a much larger hotel about a 10 minute walk away. The setting is fairly quiet. Although there is some noise from the nearby road and the temple, we didn't find this disturbed us at all, and the owner's are very firendly and keen to make your stay happy.
