Shahi Palace Jaisalmer

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Made out of sandstone and decorated with taste, this hotel has a fantastic roof terrace with a view of the citadel city. I preferred staying outside of the citadel because it's less crowded and noisy (It is about 5 minutes walk to the entrance). The brothers there are extremely friendly and will take pains in helping you with whatever request you might have. They will even give you a bed to sleep on if you arrive by the 5AM train from Jodhpur, and they have also offered us a free taxi pick up from the station. Really good after a rough trip!. Only slightly negative point I would mention is food: service is slow and prices are steep for Jaisalmer. But that is definitely a minor point as this hotel was the best hotel I've stayed during my trip to Rajasthan in November 05. During my recent visit(Sept 2009) to Jaisalmer I stayed at Shahi Palace for 3 days and enjoyed every bit of it. On Mr Dev's recommendation I also undertook a Camel Safari to a "non-touristic" location away from crowd and enjoyed it thoroughly. Mr Dev was caring enough to provide a Tent(free of cost) for my 8 yr old daughter ... read more »

Obviously the owners of this place has learned the value of Lonely planet. They are extremely friendly and very helpfull. Often the mentioned me to remember to mention them in the Lonely planet guide, not that i ever wrote to lonely planet.

Very nice hotel, with good rooms and a nice restaurant on the roof (with a great view of the fort). The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel will pick you up from the station on request. Also, the camel safari I went on organised by the hotel was excellent, we didn't see another tourist for the whole trip. ... read more »

We arrived late and found ourselves in a room in a nearby 'related' establishment with no windows. The bathroom had a flyscreen window facing the hallway. We could hear everything from the commotion in the hallway to the man and son showering two floors above. The extension was left in charge of a room boy who spoke no English. ... read more »

The management of this place are fully aware of the fact that by making their guests happy and comfortable, they will get many future recommendations. It works well for them, and I only wished that other hotels on India had such an attitude.
Like many hotels in Jaisalmer, they do a pickup from the station for free but I was ... read more »

Really cool hotel, the rooms were a bit small and the bed was to short. But it wasn't anything i couldn't handle.
The 3 owners were extremely kind and fun too. Their camel safari was all the money worth.
The rooftop restaurant is also a nice place to chill out at night. However the food was quite poor. ... read more »

My stay here was one of my best memories of India and its heart. It's not only about experiencing the desert calm (and Shahi's wonderful camel safari to the Thar Desert w/ the "Camel Man") but its truly about the people and the friendships that you make along the way. The "Shahi Family" really extends their heart and understanding ... read more »

I stayed at Shahi Palace recently and loved it. The hotel is built in the old Haveli Style and the rooms are decorated, atmospheric and clean. Some of them have views of the Fort, but it doesn't matter if you don't get one of these because you will want to spend all your time on the rooftop anyway. We spent 3 awesome nights ... read more »

We booked this hotel based on all the glowing reviews here on India Mike. We arrived in Nov. 2006. We've been traveling to India for 30 years & have stayed in rock bottom budget to more upscale. This hotel was very charming & the roof "hang out" was lovely. The room was done up with all the lovely local fabrics & crafts ... read more »

Our stay at The Shahi Palace got off to a great start with the pre dawn pickup from the train station. We were then given a room in which to nap, until a more civilized hour when we were given a tour and choice of available rooms. Our room was very nice AND comfortable. The desert wind and the view of the fort made each ... read more »

I would consider taking another trip to Jaisalmer just to relax at these set of hotels (they are a string of guesthouses designed like heritage hotels, all owned by brothers). This is probably the nicest budget hotel I've ever stayed at, and I've stayed at many in Europe and India... finally, someone gets that it doesn't take ... read more »

Just finishing my stay at Shahi Palace and after having been at other hotels in Rajasthan this place was like a breath of fresh air.
There is a range of prices so be sure to ask to see ther rooms based on your budget (from 350 to 1500). The fort view is amazing at night and it's actually more ethical to stay outside the fort ... read more »

Rooms are different from each other and they have a range of price which goes from 250 up to 1050 Rs, some overlooking the fort.
