Shangri-La Regency Darjeeling

We found and booked the Shangri-La Regency hotel online for our first trip to India and Darjeeling. Ranjan the owner was very helpful and booking online was a breeze and we can recommend booking this way. The website www.shangri-la-regency.com has everything you'll want to know about this small and unique hotel right in the heart of Darjeeling. well only a short walk form everything anyway. It only has a handful of rooms but all have sensational views in fine weather but the top floor is the pick. The staff were excellent and attentive and not pushy or in your face as they can be in so many places in India. It is advertised as Darjeeling's only boutique hotel and it's a good description. Western facilities in every room and clean and spotless throughout we would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. Prices were as advertised on the website. If you want to avoid the crowded 3 hour jeep ride from Bagdogra or Siliguri, book your taxi through Shangri-La as well. It's worth the money for a comfortable trip up and back which can be a little (lot) hair-raising. The only complaint were the matresses which seemed very hard even for India. However our comments to staff after the first night saw additional quilts on top of the matress and it was like sleeping in the clouds. which we were. Staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful we met anywhere in India. There is a great Internet shop almost opposite the hotel. RS 30 an hour and good fast connection. Hot shower, western loo, cable TV ... all the usual comforts. Shangri-La Regency Darjeeling Rates and Room Information
From RS 900 per night for a double in low season.
