I stayed at Springfields at the end of a two week trip in H.P.; it was just what I needed - a peaceful and quiet place to stay with friendly, helpful staff and a good kitchen. Stayed for 2 nights during July, 2009. I was offered economy rooms for off-season rate of Rs 450 a night and then the staff tried to steer me off to nearby hotels. I was told that because of limited water availability I should take my showers etc. from 7 to 8 in the morning.

For lots more comfort at a property at the end of the Mall, Clarke's Hotel is a good choice. It is part of the Oberoi group, hence the service, staff and restaurant are impecable. It is pricy,but well worth it if you want a top notch heritage hotel in the middle of Shimla. ... read more »

Hotel White is walking distance to the heart of The Mall. It is clean and safe with a very friendly staff.. The perfect budget hotel. Good location (at the start of Mall Road, 5 minute walk from the Railway station) Clean bedsheets, towels and comfortable comforters. Courteous staff.
