Airport to Triplicane

Have been trying to figure out how best to get to Triplicane from the airport. I will be touching down in the afternoon, so all public transportation is considered. Right now I'm leaning towards taking 'the train'.

It seems to me from a search of chennai in Google Maps that the nearest station to CNK Road (where my guesthouse is located) is Chepauk. Is this connected to the Trisulam station near the airport? How best may I use public transport (don't want to take a cab) to Triplicane?

Train?

With all the respect - are you sure you want to take public transport with all your luggage after you landed?
I'm not a novice traveler (on the budget) but I wouldn't (and didn't) do it.
I took a prepaid taxi from the airport. Gone to Triplicane, actually. For Rs. 250 it was fair - no bargain, no hassle. The last thing I wanted to wade across the city then.

But it's your trip ;)

That station is on a different line.

Without actually having done it, my guess is that you would take a train from tirusualam, near the airport, that is going to BEACH. You can change there and cut back on the MRTS line.

I with C4F on this one... I wouldn't even want to carry my stuff out the airport, accross that very busy road to the station. I certainly wouldn't want to struggle from platform to platform, either walking a long way for the bridge, or climbing down and accross the tracks, or a combination of both. The late afternoon trains will be filling up with schoolchildren, then the office rush. I wouldn't even do it with a days shopping!

Take that cab! 250 seems very fair. There are two or three pre-paid offices together: the one on the left seems cheaper, though the car might be a bit old.

I second Nick's views. It wld be a horrowing experience for u to undertake a journey by train, soon as u land from S'pore!Pl take the cab :)
If u can’t convince them, confuse them!!

:) I travel very very light, with just a small day pack. But we'll see.. I might just end up taking the cab :)

Assuming I do push through with this ambitious "i'm taking the train" idea -- so I take the train from Trisulam to Beach, and then change to a train bound for Chepauk, is that right?

I guess... Can you un-abreviate CNK? I can't find it on the map. Or give us the Google map link.

Got the address of the hotel off a guidebook as just CNK Road -- Google Maps also shows it as such, as the road a little west of the Madras Cricket Club and Chepauk station.

Hehe... I've spent 10 days in the neighborhood - Broad Lands for 4 days then sweating more than I wanted moved to Thaj Regency next to it. That was a good value, spacious A/C room, huge bed, sat TV for Rs. 650.
Nothing to do with the trains though [Blush]

You'll be ok then.

As long as you don't mind the entire journey taking two or three hours!

Done it many times using the MRT railway station accross the road passing the airport. last time though I hade to made a big detour to reach it as they blocked (in fact walled) the entrance at the carpark close to it. The ride to Egmore is about 7 Rs. Auto from Egmore to Triplicane 40-50 Rs.

I will be flying to Chennai on Thursday and was wondering the approximate cost and time of a prepaid taxi to Triplicane. I arrive around 3.30 pm. I arrive at terminal 4 where roughly could I find the booth ?

I only know the prepaid booths coming out of inter arrivals — innova ₹700 to ₹800 , smaller sedans maybe as low as ₹ 500 , at that time of day you might do it in an hour , though traffic will be heavy.
If you’re chasing some nostalgia there are lots of Ambo’s in the car park , if you’re good you can get one for around ₹500 — sometimes I see it as an enjoyable battlefield.

On arrival you should find Ola/fasttrack/Black and yellow prepaid booths. Ola uses demand/surge pricing. Expect it to be anywhere between 400-600 Rs for a hatchback. It is about 22km and should not take more than 60 minutes if you leave airport around 4pm.

Airport to Triplicane

I think longer than an hour, maybe 1.5. but all depends on luck.

Welcome to Chennai. I guess you are landing right now!

We are expecting rain in a few days. Hoping for it; we have not been lucky with this Monsoon.
