Almora to Karnaprayag

Hi,

I am aware of a road that goes from Almora to Karnaprayag. What is the distance between these two places? Is it a proper road and open in May? Do we have buses/shared jeeps plying on this route??

How much time should I keep if I have to take this road??

Thanks,
Jyoti

If I remember right, you can go via Kausani or via Ranikhet, but there are some shortcuts which make the journey slightly shorter. A local driver will know the condition of these shortcuts.

Distances

Almora to Kausani 55 km
Kausani to Karanprayag approx 110

Almora to Ranikhet 50km
Ranikhet to Karanprayag 135

If you take an average of 30/35km per hour on those roads going uphill, and without long stops, you will be in the ballpark.

Almora to Ranikhet/Kausani, you should get buses and shared jeeps easily. Not sure upto Karanprayag.

I took a shared jeep between Gwaldam and Baijnath many years ago.

I travelled this route 10yrs ago, we took a bus fromAlmora to Kausani where we had a few hours wait to change buses,we stayed in Gwaldam overnight but on reflection Kausani would have been the better choice. We caught a bus the next morning to Karnaprayag where we had to change buses for Joshimath/Badrinath.
Jyoti, if you are returning on the bottom road in the Kedar/ Rishi direction try a stop off at Rudraprayag & visit the little Shiva Temple up the steps at the confluence, it's a very powerful place to sit for a while & feel the force of the 2 rivers merging,it's one of my memories of India i'll cherish forever.
