Pedestrian road to Kedarnath being cleared of snow

Due to copious amounts of snow that has accumulated during the winter months in Kedarnath, the road cutting work for clearing the pedestrian road from Gaurikund is being cleared of snow by man & machine to ensure smooth darshan of the pilgrimage site by the pilgrims - here is the link to the news in Hindi -

Trekking expeditions to Gangotri National Park/Gomukh kept on the hold

On request of the mountaineering & trekking associations the Uttarakhand Govt. had declared the date of opening of Gangotri National Park for trekking parties from 1st April, 2019 onward instead of 15th April during previous years. However, due to copious amounts of snow, snow slide zones have developed from Harsil to Gangotri and therefore, it has been decided that at first a recce of the trek route will be carried out jointly by the park authorities alongwith the trekkers association before finalizing the date for allowing trekking in the Park - here is the link to the news in Hindi -

Tungnath to open on 10th and Madhyamaheshwar on 25th May, 2019

Warning of hailstorm in some parts of the State from 16th April, 2019

The met department has predicted rainfall in four districts of the state namely Pithroagarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag and it is likely that widespread squalls with hails is likely to hit the widespread region from 16th April, 2019 for about 48 hours - here is the link to the news in Hindi -

Met issues fresh warning of rain, thunder

Dehradun: The regional meteorological centre on Sunday issued a warning of rain, hail and thunderstorm in parts of Uttarakhand on April 16 and 17. The Met office issued an ‘orange alert’ of hail/squall with wind speed reaching up to 60 to 80 kmph, especially in the plains.
According to Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological centre, “A western disturbance is approaching and will have an impact on the weather in the state on April 16 and 17. Thunderstorm activity will be witnessed in the plains and hills are likely to receive rains.” - here is the link to the news -

Snow being cleared from road leading to Kedarnath and temple complex of Badrinath

Rain lashes Doon, mercury drops by 11 degrees Celsius
DEHRADUN: Rain and thunder lashed Dehradun on Tuesday causing the temperatures to fall by several notches. After recording season’s highest temperature at 37 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Monday, the state capital recorded 25.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, a fall of 11 degrees Celsius.

The current spell of rain is likely to continue with the regional meteorological centre predicting hail and squall with wind speed reaching up to 60 to 80 kmph hitting at isolated places, especially in the plains, in Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

“Under the influence of a western disturbance, the weather has changed across the state. Rain activity has been recorded at several places in Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, on Tuesday,” said Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological centre. - here is the link to the news -

Snowfall reported from Chardham destinations

As predicted by the met department, the State witnessed squalls and rains all across the State. Moreover, the four Chardham destinations of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamuntori alongwith higher reaches of Pithoragarh district reported snowfall, thus, bringing down the temperatures considerably - here is the link to the news in Hindi -

Road clearance work for Niti valley in full swing
